This is the catalogue for Hong Kong artist Kwok Ying’s one-woman exhibition at Grotto Fine Art (Hong Kong) featuring her recent non-narrative paintings.

Kwok’s work deals with commonplace and ordinary things such as household furniture or animal, by rendering the surfaces and enlarged pattern of the animal skins respectively. The representation thus carries a connotative intention rather than an objective depiction. Kwok states, “As I am not dwelling on the so-called contents, when I start thinking about a piece of work, I begin either with subjects, materials or the means of shaping the work.”
