The calligraphy of Yang-Tze Tong is inspired by classical Chinese literature, and she employs the rhythmic motion of the limbs in classical calligraphy to create fascinating spatial structures. Among her abstract, pure lines, Tong has developed a classical representation of contemporary Taiwanese calligraphy. By featuring the new model of calligraphic art established by Tong, as well as showcasing the innovative fusion with folk traditions and digital media, the exhibition is aimed to demonstrate the pluralistic dialog of contemporary Taiwanese calligraphy with classical literature, folk art, and technological media. In addition, the exhibition is held to proclaim the establishment of the Taiwan Academy, highlighting its mission of presenting Taiwan’s cultural diversity to the world and promoting research on Sinology and Taiwan.
