Join us virtually as Alex Lau, Director of Empty Gallery, talks about his life and work with MOCA Associate Curator Andrew Rebatta. It’s part of the series Curators in Conversation, where we learn about how curators and cultural producers in the Chinese and Asian American community approach their work. Alex will discuss his interests on the fertile intersection between the visual and sonic arts, and what it’s like to curate a black-cube space located at the edge of Aberdeen Harbor in Tin Wan, Hong Kong.
Alexander Lau (劉文棟) is a curator, writer, and former filmmaker based between New York and Hong Kong. He has been director of Empty Gallery in Hong Kong and its associated record label, Empty Editions, since their founding in 2015. Lau is also a board member of NY-based non-profits Blank Forms and Primary Information.
