“DISown – Not For Everyone,” is an art exhibition posing as a retail store. Or maybe it’s the other way around. As Karl Lagerfeld for H&M is a diffusion line for fashion, DISown is a diffusion line for art. Set as an examination of taste and consumerism, DISown presents a new model for cultural critique. Presenting products from over 30 world-renowned artists, DISown will be featured in a retail installation by artist Lizzie Fitch. Art collective DIS and curator Agatha Wara present the month long exhibition, starting March 6th at Red Bull Studio New York.

Saturday, March 29th
5:00pm-6:00pm : Brice Dellsperger BODY DOUBLE

Bjarne Melgaard and DIS Magazine present the work of Brice Dellsperger.

For the past 20 years, French artist Brice Dellsperger has focused his attention on a series of cinematic reprises that aim to both duplicate and eviscerate familiar cinematic moments.  Taking their title from the Brian De Palma film of the same name while simultaneously functioning as a direct reference to the artist’s recasting of iconic scenes using a series of surrogate actors, the BODY DOUBLE works not only contend with issues of material and visual replication, but also with the replicative nature of film itself. Frequently featuring the artist himself in concert with performer Jean-Luc Verna in drag, these works actively occupy the narrow space that exists between campy amusement and the horror we experience in the face of semiotic defiance. Dellsperger’s films are not only meditations on drag culture, but meditations on the drag of film itself.

The pieces we will screen are BD 15, 17, 22, 23 and 30. BD 30 is the newest installment in the series and it is a scene from Dressed to Kill starring Brice and Brice.
