The first New York City engagement of the Retrospective Project, Part I: Regeneration, will be presented at Danspace Project. It will include unexpected juxtapositions of complementary elements—excerpts from White Dance (1976, their first work) and Raven (2010, their latest work), a showing of Eiko & Koma’s videos including their most recent, Dancing in Water: the Making of ‘River,’ and conversations with special guests:
Thursday, May 27th: Margaret Leng Tan, the acclaimed pianist who collaborated with Eiko & Koma in 2007 on Mourning
Friday, May 28th: Sam Miller, Retrospective Project producer, and Charles Reinhart, Director of the American Dance Festival
Saturday, May 29th: David Gordon and Valda Setterfield, renowned choreographer and dancer from the Pick-Up Performance Company
Eiko & Koma’s Retrospective Project celebrates 40 years of collaboration. Set to be completed in 2012, this multi-faceted endeavor will include new commissions, reworkings of older pieces, exhibitions, film showings, video installations and publication of a retrospective catalogue. Danspace Project, in collaboration with other New York venues, has committed itself to co-presenting the many components of the Retrospective that will occur in the city between now and 2012.
