A performance by Hu Xiangqian: Wednesday, July 16, 6:30-7:30pm
Hu Xiangqian will present his first U.S. work at the Cathedral of St John the Divine. His medium of choice is performance art—the better to achieve a more direct bodily and perceptive experience. As with many of his works, the form of his presentation will be one of the world’s most ancient. The World Is My Home is a testimony to the relationship of an artist to his environment and his audience; however, what he targets is perhaps not the audience, but rather himself.
Hu Xiangqian was born in 1983 in Guangdong, China, and graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2007. He lives and works in Beijing, and is currently in New York on an Asian Cultural Council fellowship.
