Lombard Freid Gallery is pleased to present a group show of works by Huguette Caland, Sarah Dwyer, Rosa Loy, and Dannielle Tegeder.
This group of women painters (a typically underrepresented demographic) represents a range of cultural backgrounds and artistic tradition. Personal subjectivity and historical abstraction play equal roles in these artists’s oeuvres.
Huguette Caland (b. 1931, Lebanon) began her career in the early 1960s with erotic abstract paintings and body landscapes and continued to explore the body in a free-spirited and playful way throughout the seventies when she had relocated to Paris. Her work progressed across a wide range of mediums, with her most recent canvases reflecting distorted distance and layered memory, with a playful modernist abstraction.
