Ken Lum was born in 1956 in Vancouver, Canada. Throughout his career, which has spanned more than twenty-five years, his work in sculpture, painting, and photography has been concerned with issues of identity and public space. Over the past fifteen years, his work has been included in many international exhibitions at venues including Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe (2013); 4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Russia (2012); 10th Istanbul Biennial (2008); 7th Gwangju Biennale, South Korea (2008); Documenta 11, Kassel, Germany (2002); Shanghai Biennale, China (2000); and São Paulo Bienal (1998). He also cocurated the Sharjah Biennial 7 (2005) and Shanghai Modern: 1919 -1945 (2004). He is the cofounder and founding editor of Yishu Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art and a professor in the School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
