Koo Jeong A’s exhibition for Dia will unfold at three locations: the Hispanic Society of America, Dia:Beacon, and The Dan Flavin Art Institute. Commissioned by Dia, Koo Jeong A’s installation for the Hispanic Society emerges out of a distinctive multidisciplinary approach to art making, revealing her interests in natural phenomena and the intricacies of perception and memory.
About the Artist:
Koo Jeong A was born in 1967 in Seoul, Korea. She studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and has held residencies at the Aspen Art Museum and Artpace, San Antonio. She has exhibited internationally since 1994, including solo presentations at the Yvon Lambert Gallery; Centre International d’Art et du Paysage, Ile de Vassivière, France (2007); Portikus, Frankfurt (2004); Secession, Vienna (2002); CCA Kitakyushu, Japan (2002); Musee dArt Moderne de la Ville de Paris (1994); and has work in the collection of the Centre Pompidou and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. In 2004, she was invited, along with Urs Fischer, to launch the exhibition program at the Centre Pompidou’s Espace 315 gallery. Her work has also been included in numerous group exhibitions including the Venice Biennale (2009, 2000, and 1995); Performa05, New York (2005); Yokohama Triennial, Japan (2001); Manifesta 3, Slovenia (2000); Unfinished History, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1998); Kwangju Biennial (1997); and Manifesta 1, Rotterdam (1996). She was awarded the Hermès Korea Missulsang art prize in 2005 and was a finalist for the Hugo Boss Prize in 2002. Koo Jeong A lives and works in London.
