SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94133
The Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco (CCC) is pleased to partner with UNTITLED Art Fair, San Francisco.
Placed throughout the third edition of Untitled Art, San Francisco, visitors will encounter Kuang-Yu Tsui’s Exercise Living, 2017 – 2018, video series. In this series of performance videos, Tsui transforms quotidian scenes we are familiar with into sites of performance through his actions. Whether it is through the name brand display windows or the electronic media, the series has produced a channel for us to convey our “daily performances,” making any living experience seem like a performance.
Kuang-Yu Tsui was born in Taiwan in 1974. He graduated from the National Institute of the Arts (now Taipei National University of the Arts) in 1997. Since the mid-1990s onward, he has been intervening into urban living through performance and action, creating a series of systematized performance videos. His vocabulary conveys a sense of lighthearted- ness and humor and is immediately affecting, engaging the audience in earnest self- reflection through the seemingly nonsensical and absurd comic presentation.
In his work, he uses modern life as a backdrop and converts daily objects into props, brilliantly triggering universal, collective experience that transcends language and cultural barriers.
