SHERI SHIH HUI: Residency & Bioplastics Upcycled Workshop
|When||1 Sep 2019 - 30 Sep 2019|
|Where||Textile Arts Center Manhattan
26 West 8 St
New York, NY 10011
Sheri Shih Hui is a Taiwanese interdisciplinary designer, working with various creative methodologies to realize the previously unimagined, including using digital modeling, digital fabrication with CNC and 3D printing, and molding and casting using bio-materials, textiles and fibers.
She started developing her design process in grad school, going through several architecture/ interior design courses, computational design workshops, and an internship at a digital design company in Taipei. These experiences shaped her attitude towards the digital era, and made her more interested in a digital approach of the fashion design process.
With a background in philosophy and fashion design, Sheri uses digital architecture methodologies combined with material studies to develop biology inspired fashion collections. During her residency at WIP, she will demonstrate her process of working with biomaterials, and showcase her latest experiment which combines digital fabricated garments and textile designs. With a strong belief in sustainability and up-cycling, Sheri will be re-utilizing the scraps and trims from TAC during her residency and turn them into bio-based textiles. Additionally, she will be experimenting with different types of bioplastic, a biodegradable biomass derived from the food sources, to design and create textile like objects.
Textile Future: Bioplastics Upcycled Workshop, Saturday, Sep 28, 3-5pm, TAC Manhattan
Join Sheri for a workshop on how to upcycle bioplastics and learn more about future sustainable materials.
