Siamese Connection: Thai Artists Alliance
|When||25 May 2010 - 28 May 2010|
|Where||Dumbo Arts Center
30 Washington St
Brooklyn, NY 11201
May 25 – 28 2010
The Thai Artists Alliance is proud to present its premier event Siamese Connection – an unprecedented four-day group exhibition featuring 26 emerging Thai artists based in New York. The artists will be featuring individual and collaborative pieces which span the mediums of painting, installation, photography, graphic design, fashion design, film, music and performing arts.
Many people do not recognize the Siamese Connection standpipe as a remnant of its namesake, the Siamese Twins, Chang and Eng. Thais and non-Thais alike normally walk around New York, without the realization that a piece of Thai heritage is present in an object located on almost every corner of the city. The works in this project will feature Thai art that will engage the viewer on a timely issue and generate an understanding of how Thai art and culture is interpreted by a new generation of young artists.
The goal is to make the audience become aware of the existence of Thai culture within the diverse city of New York. Furthermore, the project also serves to create a connection between the Thai and international communities of New York, as well as the Thais themselves.
