Times Square Moment: EAI / Takeshi Murata
|When||1 Nov 2012 - 30 Nov 2012|
New York, NY 10036
November 1- November 30, 2012
The Times Square Alliance is pleased to collaborate with Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) to present Takeshi Murata’s extraordinary digital animation in Times Square as part of Times Square Moment: A Digital Gallery. Murata’s Melter 2 (2003), an abstract experiment in hypnotic movement and color, will be screened as a massive multi-channel installation on a monumental scale: the piece will be presented on fifteen of the Square’s iconic outdoor video signs throughout seven city blocks of Times Square every night. Screening every evening in November, just before midnight, Murata’s graphic vision will fill Times Square with complex rippling bands of digital color. Screenings are best viewed on Duffy Square, on Broadway Plaza between 46th – 47th Streets, and on Broadway Plaza between 42nd and 43rd Streets.
“As New York continues its ongoing recovery in the aftermath of last week’s storm, Times Square can serve as a vital public space in which New Yorkers and visitors may share in a free and communal experience of art,” said Lori Zippay, Executive Director of EAI. “EAI is pleased to collaborate with the Times Square Alliance to present Takeshi Murata’s extraordinary digital animation: three playful minutes of pure visual pleasure that also reflects the indomitable motion, exuberance and dynamism of the city itself.”
