About Asia Art Archive in America:
Asia Art Archive in America (AAAinA), founded in 2009, is an independently established and operated U.S. 501(c)3 and the first overseas hub of Asia Art Archive (AAA) in Hong Kong.
AAA’s mission is to act as a catalyst for new ideas that enrich our understanding of the world through the collection, creation, and sharing of knowledge around recent art in and of Asia. AAAinA’s goal is to collect, preserve, and make accessible information on contemporary art from and of Asia, in order to facilitate public understanding and specialized research, to instigate dialogue and critical thinking, and to raise awareness of and support for the activities of Asia Art Archive in Hong Kong.
To achieve this goal, AAAinA maintains a reading room in Brooklyn Heights that is open to the public free of charge and comprises over 5,000 monographs, exhibition catalogs, reference books, periodicals, and audio-visual materials about contemporary art from Asia. AAAinA also organizes a regular program of talks, screenings, workshops, participatory projects, and panels with artists, curators, critics, and scholars in the field.
Position duties and responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Programs and Collection and working collaboratively with the AAA NY and HK staff, the Programs and Collections Coordinator will work to ensure AAAinA offers the most relevant and highest quality programming, collection, and all other related activities. Working with generosity, integrity, curiosity and respect in furtherance of AAAinA’s mission, they will primarily focus on the following:
- Supporting the development of AAAinA’s programming, including public, private and patron events, by actively participating in the brainstorming, research, information gathering, and coordination of meetings with potential partners, panelists and speakers, in order to plan and confirm the programming calendar.
- Preparing program communications, including the announcements and promotions on AAAinA’s website, newsletter, and social media; ensuring all website and social media posts are lively, regular, and accurate;
- Assisting day-of preparations and execution, including setup, tech checks, audience check-in, and photo documentation and recording.
- Maintaining the archive of program documentation, by helping to upload and edit video recordings and prepare written transcriptions for AAAinA’s website and social media.
- Updating the calendar of community events on AAAinA’s website “Beyond” page.
- Supporting the expansion and maintenance of the AAAinA reading room collection through targeted acquisitions, processing material donations, cataloging, shelving, and general upkeep of our physical collection and digital catalog.
- Coordinating reading room user appointments.
- Assisting researchers with requests for access to our digital collections and on-site physical collections.
- Conducting periodic analyses of our collections to make sure they align with content priorities and researcher needs.
- Organizing private and public workshops on how to use AAAinA’s collections.
- Supporting communications strategy for AAAinA programs and collections, including selecting and publishing programs and collection highlights for our website and Instagram/Twitter/Facebook/YouTube pages.
- Working with AAAinA staff on social media strategies to expand AAAinA’s outreach, including content that showcases the breadth and depth of AAAinA’s collections and programming.
- Support AAAinA staff in program and collection-related development activities.
- Support administrative tasks as needed.
- Being an enthusiastic and energetic representative of AAAinA, attending community cultural events, and actively helping to expand our network of friends, supporters and collaborators.
- Abiding interest in and experience with contemporary art and Asia, and a desire to learn more about this field.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to be consistently gracious, diplomatic, and professional with all levels of staff, Board members, donors, visitors, audience members, speakers, and other external counterparts and collaborators.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and quality of results; experience in cataloging or working with collections preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience writing copy for social media is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, multi-task, prioritize, set goals and meet them in a timely manner.
- A self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Fluent written and spoken English (familiarity and fluency with other Asian languages is a plus).
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Adobe Creative Suite, and GSuite. Experience with Final Cut Pro, or other video-editing software, is a plus.as well Eventbrite, Instagram and other forms of social media for outreach and promotion.
- Advanced degree in a related field preferred; Asian art history, library science.
- Part-time (3-4 days a week), in person, from Monday–Friday, 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.
- Occasional weeknights and weekends.
- Must be eligible to work legally in the United States.
- Start date as soon as possible, ideally by June.
Salary range: $18 to $20 (Hourly).
