AAAinA strives to be a welcoming and accessible public venue for all visitors. Our Reading Room, which is also the site of all public programming, is located on the ground floor of a repurposed carriage house in Brooklyn Heights. All facilities are ADA-compliant; bathrooms are wheelchair accessible and all-gender, and there are no steps or stairs required to access the library or event space. Staff are present during Reading Room hours and all public programs to provide hospitality and assistance to visitors with disabilities and other access needs.
Our Reading Room is equipped with two public computers, a printer/copier, free WiFi, large work tables, ample natural light, and a kitchenette with complimentary refreshments. AAAinA’s collections are available through a searchable online catalog that allows visitors to browse by keyword, author, or artist. Visitors may contact staff in advance to request accommodations, place holds on materials, or ask questions about accessibility.
All public programs are professionally video documented and/or transcribed, and made publicly available on AAAinA’s website. Video recordings include built-in closed captions, and virtual programs include live transcription when indicated.
AAAinA is committed to improving the accessibility of its website and digital resources on an ongoing basis. We regularly review and address issues such as missing or redundant alternative text, broken links, missing form labels, and improperly labeled headings. We are actively adding descriptive alt text to website images to support visitors who use screen readers or other assistive technologies, with updates completed on a regular and rolling basis. AAAinA strives to follow best practices recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) through the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
