Accessibility
AAAinA strives to be a welcoming and accessible public venue for all visitors. The site of our Reading Room, also where all public programming is held, is located on the ground floor of a repurposed carriage house in Brooklyn Heights. All of our facilities are ADA-compliant; bathrooms are wheelchair accessible and all-gender. There are no steps or stairs to climb to access our main library and programs. Our staff is present during Reading Room open hours (Mon-Fri) and during all public programs to offer general hospitality and to the best of our ability assistance for visitors with special needs, including people with disabilities, to ensure a comfortable experience for all. Our open door policy welcomes and encourages the general public to come to study, browse or participate in our programming, regardless of race, nationality, ethnicity, sex, religion, disability, and age.
Our Reading Room is equipped with two computers, printer/copier, free WiFi, large working tables, ample natural light, as well as a kitchenette to prepare light refreshments for our visitors free of charge. AAAinA’s unique collection of books and archives are cataloged and made available through a searchable online catalog that allows visitors to browse our collection quickly via keyword, author, or artist, for a more convenient user experience. Visitors can contact our reading room staff at info@aaa-a.org for any questions on accessibility, request additional accommodation for a public event, place holds on books prior to the visit, and to recommend titles on specific topics of interest.
All of our public programs are professionally video-documented and/or transcribed and are publicly available on AAAinA’s website. All video documentations have built-in close captions. Virtual programs include live transcription when indicated. Our non-discrimination policy is posted on our website and available to all visitors.
