Japanese Art After 1945: Scream Against the Sky

With a focus on the development, identity and expression of Japanese avant-garde art after 1945, as seen from the social and political context of postwar and contemporary culture in Japan, this book contains fifteen essays by art historian Alexandra Munroe, video artist Nam June Paik and curator Barbara London, among others. English translated anthology of selected Japanese writings and artists’ statements dating from 1945, a glossary and extensive bibliography are included. This publication was published on the occasion of a touring exhibition at Yokohama Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, New York, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art from year 1994 to 1995.
