Inner Voice Transplant is Wong Kit Yi’s most recent karaoke lecture-performance and video installation that combines her extensive research in Akron and Cleveland with her own personal experiences, ranging from Hong Kong pop culture to intimate family life. using the format of the karaoke subtitle, as stand-in for her own voice, Kit Yi explores voice as scientific, spiritual, mediatic and imaginary reality. Wong Kit Yi’s approach challenges the separation between fields of knowledge to re-imbue the world with what she calls “political magick”.
For this specific performance, Wong Kit Yi, who lives in Hong Kong, works with local New York voices to utter her words.
This work was made for the occasion of Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows, the 2022 FRONT triennial in Cleveland.
This event is organized in the framework of SIREN (some poetics), a group exhibition and a poetics devoted to technologies of myth and mouth, earth and alarm, gender and language.
Inner Voice Transplant is free and open to all, prior registration via this link is recommended.
