Please join us on Thursday, October 8th from 6:30-8pm for a zine-making workshop with artist Sarula Bao. Participants will create and take home their own zine guided by Bao and her original prompts related to the concurrent exhibition, Zine* Together. The evening will begin with a short walkthrough of the exhibition, led by Director of Programs, Collections and Exhibitions, Claire Kim. All materials for the workshop will be provided. 

Zine* Together is the first exhibition of its kind to examine Asian American zines not only as objects, but as actions—creative, collective, and relational. Drawing from Asia Art Archive in America’s Reading Room collection, this exhibition highlights collaboratively produced zines from 2010 to the present, alongside newly commissioned projects and prompts that trace zine-making as a mode of shared authorship and community building. Registration through our Eventbrite portal is required for all AAAinA programming. Suggested donation is $5. The minimum required donation is $1. Light refreshments will be provided. Programs begin promptly, so please arrive 5-10 minutes early.

Bios:

Sarula Bao is an artist, zine maker, educator and community organizer. She directs a small press, Endless Editions and the Brooklyn Art Book Fair (BKABF). Her primary goals and practice are community building by removing barriers of entry for artists, fostering connections and providing space, platforms, resources and labor. She is a faculty member and the Lead Technician at the SVA RisoLAB.
