AWAS! Recent Art from Indonesia was an exhibition that examined ways in which recent social, political and economic changes in Indonesia were manifested in the work of fourteen contemporary artists. Working across a range of media including video, folkloric traditions, drawing and paintings, the artists responded to President Suharto’s resignation and the potential for a nascent democracy and freedom of speech.
